Location: Western Island of Zanzibar. It takes 15 minutes by local motor boat from Stonetown. Tropical vegetation of baobabs, palm trees and passion fruits, harbours a small historic graveyard and rich wild-life including a herd of indigenous Duiker Chapwani (miniature antelopes).

The size of the island, the few guests (maximum 20) and the choice of small coves means that each person can find total privacy. For much of the day the island is excellent for swimming and when the tide goes out you can explore the life on the coral reef and the neighboring islands.

Accommodation: There are only five bandas with a total of ten rooms right on the beach. The rooms are not large but are comfortable, with a spacious bathroom and separate toilet. They are decorated with colourful African prints and furnished with traditional local furniture and four poster beds.

The rooms are simply furnished with a four poster bed, a mosquito net, ceiling fan, wardrobe and traditional Zanzibari writing desk. A banana leaf shutter closes the room from the light outside whilst letting through a fresh breeze.

It is almost never too hot in the rooms at night and sometimes bed covers are needed. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, as given the power situation this would be impossible but nor is it needed. Each room has its own separate toilet and a large bathroom with wash basin and shower area.

The restaurant on the water's edge provides a unique blend of Oriental, African and European cuisine using local ingredients fresh from the market.

Activities: The island has four canoes, which can be used to explore the coast around the island. There is a beach volley court on the island, archery, petanque balls, and lots of other games to break up the day. Trips with the local fishermen and sailing on an N'galawa, the small tri-marans which are the traditional coastal fishing and sailing vessels.
